GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green
Bay women's tennis team lost a hard fought 4-3 decision to the Northern Iowa
Panthers on Saturday night at the Green Bay Tennis Center.
Green Bay started out of
the gates quickly by winning the doubles point after taking the top two spots.
Morgan Weuve (Green Bay, Wis.) and Jennifer Bradfield (Fairfield, Iowa) cruised
to an 8-2 victory at the No. 2 position. Emily Lawent (Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Lauryn Grimando (Oak Brook, Ill.) then clinched the point with an impressive
8-6 win at No. 1.
Grimando was a two-time
winner, as she also took her singles match. Playing in the No. 4 position, the
senior claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Katy Delagardelle.
Green Bay's other
singles winner was Maria Anderson (Marshfield, Wis.), who was triumphant in the
six line by a 6-3, 6-3 final. All six singles matches were decided by straight
sets. UNI showed its strength at the top of the order, taking Nos. 1-3.
The Phoenix is next in
action Saturday, March 13 at Valparaiso in its conference opener.
