February 18, 2010 - After
having great races at the CCSA conference championships last weekend, Green Bay's
Santi Ocariz (Spooner, Wis.) and Carolyn Freeman (Ely, Minn.) were named
First Team All-CCSA.
"They're both so deserving of this recognition. They trained
hard and are extremely focused on every race," said head coach Butch Reimer.
The All-CCSA teams recognize season-long achievement and
were based on points given out in each race. The top 20 finishers received
Super Tour Points for each race and the points were added up to get the teams.
The top five points-getters made the first team, while the next five were named
to the second team.
Ocariz was the top skier in the CCSA finishing the regular
season with 221 points; 69 points ahead of the second skier. Meanwhile Freeman
captured the fifth spot on the women's first team with 130 total points.
"Nordic skiing is a year-round commitment that starts in spring
and goes through the summer. The work Carolyn and Santi have put in really
shows and is paying off for them," said Reimer.
This weekend (March 20-21) Ocariz and Freeman will both be
competing in the NCAA Central Regional Championships at Houghton, Mich. where the
top eight men's skiers and top seven women's skiers will advance to the NCAA
National Championships held March 8-13.
