DECEMBER 12, 2009 - Three players from the Green Bay men's soccer team received recognition from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for their performances this season.
Juniors David Prochazka (Gothenburg, Sweden) and JC Banks (Milwaukee, Wis.) were named to the second team All-Region for the Great Lakes while sophomore Tony Walls (Wauwatosa, Wis.) was a first team All-Region selection.
"We are really excited and for these players and the recognition they received for their performance this season," said head coach Tom Poitras.
Walls scored four goals on 48 shots for the Phoenix this season while starting all 20 games, "Tony is a major force for us in the midfield. He dictates the game and control the middle of the field, making him a big part of our successful season," said Poitras.
After missing four games due to injury, Prochazka finished the season second on the team with nine assists. Prochazka played a crucial defensive role in Green Bay's first ever Horizon League Tournament title and was named to the all-tournament team for his performance.
"David was the anchor of our backline and is a really composed player to have in the back. He provides a real sense of confidence to our team knowing he's back there," said Poitras.
Horizon League Player of the Year, Banks led the team in goals (13), assists (10), points (36) and shots on goal (30). Banks was also named to the All-Tournament Horizon League Team in Green Bay's 3-2 penalty kick win over Butler.
"JC had a great season and is very crucial in our attack. His performance this season proves he can do everything on that attacking side of the ball," said Poitras.
For the first time in 26 years, the men's soccer team advanced to the NCAA tournament before falling to Notre Dame 2-1 in the first round. No. 1 seeded Akron is also in the Great Lakes region and will play for the national championship on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. CT held in Cary, North Carolina.
