GREEN BAY, Wis. (Nov. 18, 2009) - A pair of Green Bay
volleyball players, senior Holly Visser (Waupun, Wis.) and junior Whitney Schott (Roscoe, Ill.), earned postseason honors from the Horizon League, the
conference office announced today. Visser was named to the all-league team,
while Schott earned a spot on the all-newcomer squad. Both awards were voted on
by the league's nine head coaches.
Visser, an outside hitter, currently ranks
among the Horizon League's top 10 in four statistical categories: aces (4th),
points (8th), kills per set (9th) and digs per set (10th).
The team leader in total kills (333), total points (389.5) and aces (31) sits
third on Green Bay's career kills list with 1,140.
Visser has collected 14 double-doubles this
season, including four of the past five matches. She pounded a season-high 20
kills and added 17 digs in a win at Youngstown State in late October. On Nov.
2, the versatile performer earned Horizon League Offensive Player of the
Week honors for the first time in her career.
Schott, the Phoenix setter, ranks third in the league in
assists at 10.54 per set. She has posted 1,117 in her first year in Green Bay,
a figure that already ranks her sixth in school history in career assists. The
total is also the sixth-highest single-season mark in school annals.
She has posted 13 double-doubles, including five in a row to
end the regular season. Schott tallied 15 games with at least 40 assists, notching
a season-high 57 in a victory over UIC on Oct. 17.
Green Bay opens Horizon League Tournament play Friday in
Cleveland. The sixth-seeded Phoenix will take on No. 3 Milwaukee at 4 p.m.
(CT). The game will be videostreamed live on the Horizon League Network.
