Green Bay Breaks into AP Poll Top 25 for First Time Since 2014-15

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Almost a week after breaking into the top 25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, the Green Bay women's basketball team made its first appearance in the AP Poll this season, receiving its highest number of votes to rank No. 24.

After nine-straight Phoenix victories and an 8-0 start to the Horizon League slate, the Green Bay women's basketball team entered the AP Top 25 for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

Last week, the Phoenix kicked things off with a 56-35 victory over Valparaiso on Tuesday, before dominating in-state rival Milwaukee, 89-47, on Saturday afternoon in a rematch of the 2016 Horizon League Tournament.

Green Bay currently ranks second in the country in scoring defense with a 48.2 points allowed per game average, second to only Campbell at 45.9. The Phoenix also ranks in the nation's top 10 in scoring margin, coming in at ninth and defeating its opponents by an average of 20.5 points per game.

The national exposure and acclaim has been a reoccurring theme for the Green Bay women's basketball program, which has now been ranked at some point during the season in six out of the last seven years.

Green Bay has tallied wins this season over three 2016 NCAA Tournament Participants in Belmont, Chattanooga, and South Dakota State. The Phoenix also nearly took down Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., back when the Fighting Irish ranked No. 1 in the country.

UConn is ranked No. 1 once again this week, with Baylor (No. 2), Maryland (No. 3), Mississippi State (No. 4) and South Carolina (No. 5) rounding out the top 5. Green Bay is the only mid-major program to rank in the top 25.

This is the first time since the 2012-13 season that Green Bay has been ranked in the top 25 in both polls at the same time.

Green Bay will begin a four-game road trip this week, kicking things off at Youngstown State on Thursday at 6 p.m.
