GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – After seven-straight Phoenix victories and a 6-0 start to the Horizon League slate, the Green Bay women's basketball team entered the USA Today Coaches Poll Top 25 for the second-straight season and third time since 2012-13. The Phoenix received its highest number of votes this season to be ranked No. 25.
Green Bay, who has worked its way to a 15-2 start in the 2016-17 campaign, is the only mid-major program to break into the top 25 in the most recent version of the poll. It is also the only mid-major program receiving votes in the poll.
The national exposure and acclaim has been a reoccurring theme for the Green Bay women's basketball program, which has now been ranked at some point during the season in six out of the last seven years.
Green Bay has tallied wins this season over three 2016 NCAA Tournament Participants in Belmont, Chattanooga, and South Dakota State. The Phoenix also nearly took down Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., back when the Fighting Irish were ranked No. 1 in the country.
UConn is ranked No. 1 once again this week, with Baylor (No. 2), Maryland (No. 3), Mississippi State (No. 4) and South Carolina (No. 5) rounding out the top 5. Green Bay is currently receiving votes in the AP Top 25 Poll and is only a single spot outside of being ranked.
Green Bay will play host to Horizon League foe Valparaiso this evening at 7 p.m. before welcoming in-state rival Milwaukee to the Kress Center on Saturday at 1 p.m.
