GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – This Saturday's showdown with Oakland for the Green Bay men's basketball team will serve as the annual Black Out Cancer game, with the athletics department working in conjunction with Prevea Health and Broadway Automotive. The initiative is designed to help raise awareness of all types of cancers and generate donations to cancer research.
WHEN: Saturday, Jan. 23 at 1 p.m. CT
LOCATION: Green Bay, Wis. (Resch Center)
JERSEYS: Green Bay will wear its black alternate road uniforms in front of its home crowd for the first and only time all year. Oakland will wear light colored uniforms.
SHOWING SUPPORT: Fans are encouraged to wear black apparel in support of the game's initiative. The goal is to “Black Out” the Resch Center.
PROMOTION: The first 1,000 fans in attendance with a youth ticket will receive a FREE black youth jersey, courtesy of Prevea Health. Additionally, the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a FREE self-adhesive credit card wallet for smartphones, courtesy of WFRV Channel 5.
HISTORY: The Black Out Cancer initiative started back in January of 2012, when the Phoenix played its first-ever black out game on Feb. 4 against in-state rival Milwaukee. Green Bay routed UIC last year 78-55 in its Black Out Game for 2014-15.
DONATIONS: There will be a “Dash for Cash” during the Under 4 minute media timeout of the first half, as Prevea volunteers and Phoenix spirit members will be passing around black bags through the stands, collecting donations to benefit families with cancer. Broadway Automotive will match up to $2,500 in donations received from the Dash for Cash.
SPECIAL THANKS: Prevea Health and Broadway Automotive will serve as the game sponsors, with both donating funds to cancer awareness and research.
