GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - With its continued success and best start in its 38-year-old program
history, the No. 12/9 Green Bay (19-0, 9-0 HL) women's basketball team is once
again being recognized at the national level. Green Bay is featured in the Jan.
30 edition of The New York Times.
Published since
1851, The New York Times is the most
popular American online newspaper website, registering 30 million visitors per
month.
"It's great
attention for our program and university," said Green Bay head coach Matt Bollant. "We strive to bring honor
to our program and university and coverage like this helps to do that, which is
great."
Reporter Pat Borzi
recently spent time in Green Bay covering the Packers playoff game against the
New York Giants and received a bonus story when he got the approval to feature
a story on the history of Green Bay women's basketball and its success in an
NFL city.
"I've known about
the program and followed its success and when I knew I was coming to Green Bay
for the playoff game, I was excited to be able to do this story," said Borzi.
"There's just so much history here; 35 consecutive winning seasons is just
amazing."
Green Bay is no
stranger to national attention as it was featured live on ESPN's NCAA
Tournament Selection Show last season in addition to being the subject of
several features published by ESPN.com writer Graham Hays.
"Obviously the
more national attention we get the better it is for recruiting," Bollant said.
"We're always so thankful for the coverage we get both nationally and locally
as well because we know we compete against the Packers for attention."
It will be a busy
media week for Bollant and the Phoenix as it begins the second half of its
Horizon League season Saturday, Feb. 4 hosting Milwaukee at 7 p.m. at the Kress
Events Center.
