GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) -
On the heels of setting a program-record 35th consecutive
regular season win, the No. 12/12 Green Bay (15-0, 5-0 HL) women's basketball
team received its highest ranking in program history in the AP Top 25 Poll at
No. 12. Prior to the rankings released January 16, the highest ranking Green
Bay received in the AP Top 25 Poll was No. 13 in the final poll of the season,
April 5, 2011.
"We are thrilled with where we're at and we appreciate the recognition,"
said fifth year head coach Matt Bollant. "Our focus is on getting better in
practice as well as our next opponent; one game at a time."
Green Bay is currently one of two unbeaten teams in the country,
including No. 1/1 Baylor (17-0) who the Phoenix met in the Sweet 16 round of
the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
"Certainly it's an honor to be mentioned in the same sentence as Baylor,
they're the No. 1 team in the country without question," said Bollant. "It's an
honor to be in that same category and hopefully we will get a chance to play
them again."
The ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coaches Poll rankings are released every
Tuesday. Green Bay's highest ranking in the Coaches Poll is No. 9.
Green Bay hosts Youngstown State (8-8, 2-3 HL) Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7
p.m. at the Kress Events Center before battling Cleveland State (7-9, 2-3 HL)
Saturday at 2 p.m.
