GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) -
For the second consecutive week and third time this
season, No. 17/14 Green Bay (13-0, 3-0 HL) senior Julie Wojta (Francis Creek,
Wis.) has been tabbed as the Horizon League Co-Player of the Week. Wojta shares
the honor with Detroit's Shareta Brown who poured in 31 points in the Titans'
win over Loyola.
The Player of the Week nod comes after Wojta posted her seventh double
double of the season while pouring in a game-high 27 points and 12 steals in
Green Bay's 88-53 win over Milwaukee Saturday.
After the Panthers took an early 12-10 lead in the first half, Wojta led
Green Bay on a 24-0 run scoring 15 points, including three from beyond the arc,
seven steals and two assists in 12 minutes of play. Wojta finished the first
half with a career-high and program record 11 steals and five assists in 19
minutes of play.
Wojta scored eight points in the first six minutes in the second half
while grabbing her 12th steal of the game, setting a new Horizon League record
and finishing the game just two steals shy of the NCAA record 14. In addition
to her impressive defensive performance, Wojta poured in a game-high 27 points
and five assists, all in 25 minutes of play.
With her 12 steals at Milwaukee, Wojta moves to No. 10 on Green Bay's
individual career record list with 215 steals.
Green Bay will travel to Wright State (11-5, 4-0 HL) Thursday, Jan. 12
to battle the Raiders who are on a four-game winning streak against conference
opponents. The Phoenix will wrap up its road trip against Detroit Jan. 14 at 12
p.m.
