GREEN BAY, Wis.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Two members of the Green Bay women's basketball class of 2011 recently
competed in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-Star games held at
the UW Fieldhouse in Madison. Taylor Thomas (Wausau Newman) and Ashley Luke
(Oak Creek) were selected from a committee of coaches around the state of
Wisconsin to compete in the event.
Thomas was a unanimous selection chosen to compete on the
Division 5 All-State team. The 6-0 forward led the Cardinals averaging 14.8
points and 5.6 rebounds throughout her senior campaign while shooting over 80
percent from the free throw line. In the all-star game, Thomas led her North
squad to a come-from-behind 66-58 win over the South squad while posting a game-high
16 points and nine rebounds. Thomas was 7-for-16 from the field and grabbed
three steals on the defensive end throughout 29 minutes of play.
Known as one of the premier post players in the state of
Wisconsin, Luke averaged 14.5 points and nine rebounds per contest throughout
her senior campaign at Oak Creek while guiding the Knights to a 19-6 record. Luke
was selected by the WBCA as a member of the Division I South team. She played
21 minutes while grabbing six rebounds and scoring seven points in the game. A
great defender, Luke also had two steals in the contest and went 3-for-5 from
the free throw line.
Both Thomas and Luke will join their new Phoenix teammates on
campus this fall.
