Green Bay Looks to Continue its Winning Ways Saturday at Loyola

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - After winning its third-consecutive win scoring 80 or more points, the No. 18/16 Green Bay (23-1, 12-0 HL) women's basketball team looks to keep rolling on the winning track Saturday as it faces Loyola (11-11, 5-6 HL) at 12:30 p.m. at the Gentile Center in Chicago, Ill. The Ramblers enter Saturday's contest on a two-game winning streak against league opponents while the Phoenix has won 20-consecutive regular-season games against league opponents, dating back to Feb. 6, 2010.

Saturday's contest will feature two of the league's top three three-point shooters in Green Bay's leading scorer Celeste Hoewisch (Hortonville, Wis.) and Loyola's leading-scorer Monica Albano. Hoewisch leads the league in three-point field-goal percentage shooting 45 percent while Albano is third in the league sinking 38 percent from beyond the arc. In addition, Albano is second in the league in three-point field goals made with 57.

During the first meeting between these two teams on Jan. 12, after a slow start in the first half, Green Bay started the second half on a 26-6 run against the Ramblers before closing with a 72-51 win in which Kayla Tetschlag (Sheboygan, Wis.) finished with a game-high 25 points throughout 33 minutes of play. It was also the first start of the season for Hannah Quilling (Eau Claire, Wis.) who was filling in for Adrian Ritchie (De Pere, Wis.) who sprained her right MCL at Cleveland State Jan. 8.

80-point wins... With its 81-50 win over UIC Feb. 10, Green Bay has won three-consecutive games scoring over 80 points. The three-game winning streak scoring 80+ points has only happened six other times in program history at the Division I level. The longest winning streak scoring 80 or more points at the DI level was four games during the 2006-07 season.

Dialing Long Distance... Green Bay's 56-percent shooting from three-point range at UIC was its second-highest of the season since shooting a season-high 63 percent against Wisconsin Nov. 18. The Phoenix shot a season-high in the second half against the Flames on Feb.10 sinking 77.8 percent from beyond the arc. The past four games Green Bay has shot over 40 percent from three-point range.

Rising in the Rankings... This week the Phoenix made its biggest jump of the season in the AP Top 25 Poll, moving up three spots to No. 18 while jumping up one spot to No. 16 in this week's ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coach's Poll. Green Bay received its highest ranking of the season in both Top 25 Polls the week of Jan. 17 at No. 21/15.

A Sneak Peak... The annual Teddy Bear Drive sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be held in conjunction with the women's basketball game against Valparaiso on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. All teddy bears that are donated will be distributed through Bellin Health and Prevea to area hospitals.
