GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - After a thrilling game at Butler on Friday night,
Green Bay will attempt to bounce back from the tough loss less than 48 hours
later, playing at league-leading Valparaiso on Sunday afternoon.
In
its contest at Butler Friday, Green Bay led by as many as nine and trailed by
as many as 21 before having a chance to tie the game late. Senior Rahmon Fletcher's (Kansas City, Mo.) potential
game-tying three-pointer rimmed out and the Phoenix fell 81-75. Fletcher scored
15 of his 18 points in the second half to lead his team's comeback.
Junior
Steve Baker (St. Paul, Minn.), one game after not attempting a shot
against UIC, scored a career-high 20 points off of Green Bay's bench. The guard
hit 7-of-11 shots from the field, including four of his five three-pointers.
The loss ended a four-game winning streak for Green Bay and evened the team's
overall and Horizon League record at
.500.
Valparaiso
is the hottest team in the conference after winning-straight games. The
Crusaders knocked off Milwaukee 60-43 on Friday night, holding the Panthers to
just 2-of-21 from long range. Michael Rogers scored 14 points off Homer Drew's
bench to lead four double-figure scorers.
Green
Bay leads the all-time with the Crusaders 23-15. The two teams split its
contests a season ago, with both squads winning on the other's home court.
Senior Bryquis Perine (Milwaukee, Wis.) averaged 17.5 points per game against the
Crusaders in 2009-10.

INSIDE THE SERIES: Green Bay leads the all-time with Valparaiso 23-15
and has an 8-10 record in Valpo. The two teams split its contests a season ago,
with both squads winning on the other's home court. The Phoenix won 64-58 on
the road on Jan. 2, but fell on its home court, losing 84-79 at the Resch
Center on Jan. 31. Senior Bryquis Perine averaged 17.5 points per game against
the Crusaders in 2009-10.
- TOP-10 OF ALL-TIME: Fletcher's
18 points at Butler Friday night moved the senior into seventh place on the
program's all-time scoring list and over 1,500 for his career. Fletcher, who is
on pace to finish his career in fifth place all-time, passed Tom Anderson
(1975-78) with his effort and now has 1,512 career points. The senior is now
the fourth active Horizon League player with 1,500 career points, joining
Butler's Matt Howard, Cleveland State's Norris Cole and Wright State's Vaughn
Duggins.
- DEFENSE, DEFENSE: The
Phoenix defense has really turned it up a notch recently. Green Bay held Wright
State, Houston Baptist, Milwaukee, Loyola and UIC below 40 percent shooting
from the field and below 70 points. Green Bay is now 10-2 when opponents score
under 70 points, 8-1 when shooting a higher percentage than its opponent and
10-3 when its opponent shoots below 50 percent.
- SOUTHPAWS STREAKING:
Seniors Rahmon Fletcher and Bryquis Perine have both been effective of late for
the Phoenix. The team's two leading scorers have combined to average 30.8
points (Fletcher-17.0, Perine-13.8) per game during the team's recent four-game
winning streak, and combined for 29 points on Friday. The duo scored 31 points
in the first half alone in the rout of UIC last Saturday.
- BOARDWORK: Green Bay has
had at least as many rebounds as its opponents in eight-straight games and
against all eight of its foes in Horizon League play this season. The Phoenix
has a league-leading plus-5.0 rebounding margin in conference games this
season, and its plus-3.6 rebounding margin overall also leads the conference.
