No. 21/15 Green Bay Wraps up Homestand Hosting In-State Rival Milwaukee

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The No. 21/15 Green Bay (17-1, 6-0 HL) women's basketball team will wrap up its three-game homestand hosting in-state rival Milwaukee (6-11, 3-3 HL) Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Kress Events Center. Saturday's contest will be the only Horizon League game for both teams this week.

The game will feature the nation's top free-throw shooting teams. Milwaukee currently leads the nation in the statistic shooting 80.2 percent while Green Bay is third shooting 79.4 percent. Last week the Phoenix owned the top spot. Individually Hannah Quilling (Eau Claire, Wis.) is pacing the Phoenix shooting 86 percent from the charity stripe while senior Lindsay Laur leads the Panthers shooting 89 percent.

The Phoenix is currently on an 11-game winning streak against the Panthers, the longest in program history. Green Bay has won the past 11 contests by an average of 13 points per game. Overall the Phoenix is 51-17 and 31-4 in Green Bay against Milwaukee.

After snapping a nine-game losing streak, the Panthers have won three consecutive games against league opponents (Youngstown State, UIC and Loyola). Throughout its streak, Milwaukee lost by an average of 10.5 points and since then has won by an average of 9.6 points per game. Laur is pacing Milwaukee averaging 17.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

In league play, the Phoenix is off to its best start since going 18-0 in the 2008-09 season. With its 6-0 start in conference play, Green Bay is beating its opponents by an average of 12.8 points while averaging 68.3 points per contest. Overall Julie Wojta (Mishicot, Wis.) leads the Phoenix averaging 13.7 points per game while Kayla Tetschlag (Sheboygan, Wis.) has been leading the way on the boards averaging 7.3. In league play alone, Tetschlag has been pacing the way with 16.7 points and 8.5 boards per game.

Green Bay and Milwaukee know each other better than any other opponent in the league. Of the 91 opponents Green Bay has faced throughout the program's 38 seasons, the Phoenix has battled the Panthers more than any other team, 68 times. To date, head coaches Matt Bollant and Milwaukee's Sandy Botham are atop the Horizon League coaching record lists. Bollant owns the best winning percentage in league games (.926) while Botham has the most wins in league play (145).

Bench Production... With the Phoenix still without sophomore starting guard Adrian Ritchie (De Pere, Wis.), look for Green Bay's bench to continue to play more minutes. In league games this season the Phoenix bench has outscored its opponents' bench 68-43 while playing 62 more minutes than its competition.

High Rankings... Green Bay enters Saturday's contest with its highest ranking of the season in both Top 25 polls. This week the Phoenix moved up two spots to No. 21 in the AP Poll and three spots to No. 15 in this week's ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coach's Poll.

TV Timeout... Saturday's game will be shown on Time Warner Cable Sports32 at 9:00 p.m.
