GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Horizon League play returns to full swing for
Green Bay Saturday when the Phoenix host in-state rival Milwaukee at 7 p.m. at
the Resch Center in the first of 11-straight conference contests. Having
dropped its past two league games on the road, Green Bay will be playing its
first Horizon League home game since defeating Youngstown State 74-59 on Dec.
4, 2010.
Both
teams enter Saturday's game on highs after double-digit wins on Monday night.
Green Bay defeated Houston Baptist in a non-conference tilt, 77-61, while
Milwaukee routed defending HL champion Butler 76-52 to end the Bulldogs'
22-game conference winning streak.
In
Green Bay's win, the Phoenix continued its rebounding dominance with a 48-28
edge on the glass, highlighted by two double-doubles and nearly a third. Junior
Jarvis Williams (Milwaukee, Wis.) had
14 points and 12 rebounds while freshman Alec Brown (Winona, Minn.) posted 12 points and 10 boards. Fellow freshman Daniel Turner (McCordsville, Ind.) added
14 points and nine rebounds in the victory.
Milwaukee
has won two-straight (also beating Detroit) thanks hitting 27 three-pointers in
its past two games. Milwaukee has three players averaging in double figures,
including Tone Boyle (12.9 ppg), Anthony Hill (12.6 ppg) and Tony Meier (11.2
ppg).
The
last meeting in the series was a 61-54 Green Bay victory at the Resch Center on
Feb. 6, 2010. Senior Rahmon Fletcher (Kansas City, Mo.) scored 13
in that contest.

INSIDE THE SERIES: The Phoenix holds a 25-18 all-time record against the
Panthers, including a 15-6 advantage in 21 games in Green Bay. The last meeting
was a season ago at the Resch Center, with the Phoenix posting a 61-54 victory
on Feb. 6, 2010. Fletcher finished the contest with a team-high 13 points to
lead Green Bay to the home victory.

PANTHERS PLAYER TO WATCH: In Milwaukee's 76-52 upset victory over
preseason Horizon League favorite Butler on Monday, junior point guard Kaylon
Williams hung 10 of pretty much everything on the Bulldogs. He finished the
game with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, becoming the first Panther to
have a triple-double since 1993. Williams, a junior college teammate of Green
Bay's Jarvis Williams, is averaging 7.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.6 assists
per game.

HOME SWEET HOME: Green Bay is 5-2 at home in 2010-11, including a 4-2
record in the Resch Center. The Phoenix is 39-11 at the Resch Center since
2007-08, a .780 winning percentage. Tonight's game is the second in a four-game
homestand.
- BOARDWORK: Green Bay has
outrebounded four-straight opponents and all four of its foes in Horizon League
play this season. The Phoenix has a plus-8.8 rebounding margin in conference
games this season, and its plus-4.2 rebounding margin overall leads the league.
In Monday's win over Houston Baptist, three Phoenix players had nine or more
rebounds, with Williams (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Brown (12 points, 10
rebounds) posting double-doubles.
- JOLT OF JARVIS: Williams,
who missed seven games this season with an injury, has been on a tear of late
since returning to the lineup. Since being reinserted into the starting lineup
at small forward, Williams is averaging 11.6 points and 6.0 rebounds over a
five-game stretch. He is shooting 19-of-37 from the field and 20-of-28 at the
foul line during that span.
- HOMESTAND: Tonight's game
will be the second of a four-game homestand for the Phoenix, who will also host
Loyola (Jan. 13) and UIC (Jan. 15) next weekend.
- TOP-10 OF ALL-TIME: Fletcher
tied Bryan Boettcher for eighth place on Green Bay's all-time scoring list with
14 points on Monday. Fletcher has 1,440 career points and is on pace to finish
his career in fifth place all-time. Boettcher scored 1,440 career points from
1975-78.
