GREEN BAY, Wis.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - After posting consecutive double-doubles in the opening weekend of
Horizon League play, Green Bay (13-1, 2-0 HL) women's basketball senior Kayla
Tetschlag (Sheboygan, Wis.) has been named the Horizon League Player of the
Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
Tetschlag scored a season-high 19 points while grabbing 11
rebounds in Green Bay's come-from-behind win over Detroit (7-6, 1- HL) Dec. 31.
Tetschlag's bucket with 3:54 remaining to play gave the Phoenix its final lead
of the game as the Phoenix held on for a 69-62 win. The bucket was also
Tetschlag's 1,001 career point.
In Green Bay's 75-57 win over Wright State (8-5, 1-1 HL) on
Jan. 2, Tetschlag posted her fourth double-double of the season with 13:21 to
play in the contest. The senior also dished out five assists in the contest,
one shy of her career high. Tetschlag scored 15 points while grabbing 10 boards
throughout 28 minutes of play.
In the two league contests, Tetschlag led Green Bay in
rebounds (21), points (34), steals (9) and free-throw percentage (1.000).
This is the first time this season and fifth time in her
career that Tetschlag has received the Player of the Week award. With this
being Tetschlag's fifth time as POW, she is tied for 10th on the leagues'
All-Time Player of the Week award leader list.
Green Bay will play its first Horizon League road game of the
season on Thursday, Jan. 6 at Youngstown State (2-11, 0-2 HL) at 6:05 p.m.
followed by Cleveland State (8-5, 1-1 HL) Jan. 8 at 1:00 p.m. The Phoenix will
return home Wednesday, Jan. 12 as it hosts Loyola at 7 p.m. at the Kress Events
Center.
