Green Bay Breaks from League Play, Hosts HBU Monday

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - For the first time since Dec. 20, the Green Bay men's basketball team will play at the Resch Center on Monday, taking a night off from Horizon League play to host Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. The game will begin a four-game homestand for the Phoenix, who will also host Milwaukee (Jan. 8), Loyola (Jan. 13) and UIC (Jan. 15) in the next two weeks.

Monday's contest will be the third game in five days for Brian Wardle's young team, which will look to bounce back after losing a pair of conference games on the road. Green Bay played solidly on Saturday at Wright State but fell victim to a game-winning buzzer beater by WSU's Wright State.

A bright spot for the Phoenix in the past two outings has been the play of junior Jarvis Williams (Milwaukee, Wis.), who followed up a 15-point effort at Detroit on Thursday with 14 points and nine rebounds on Saturday. Senior Bryquis Perine (Milwaukee, Wis.) also added 14 points for the Phoenix, who had a 37-26 edge on the glass.

Houston Baptist enters Monday's game having not played since Dec. 20. The Huskies were slated to play Wyoming on Saturday but had their game cancelled due to travel issues. Senior Andrew Gonzalez, the Great West Conference Preseason Player of the Year, leads the Huskies in scoring at 20.1 points per game.

This is the fourth-straight year the two teams have met, with Green Bay claiming victories in the previous three contests.
