GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's soccer team opens its 2010 campaign on Friday when it plays host to No. 20 Wisconsin at Santaga Stadium at 7 p.m. The Phoenix is aiming for its first win in 15 all-time meetings against its in-state rival.

The Badgers, who will make their first trip to Santaga Stadium since 2005, are coming off a 2009 season in which they advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA College Cup. Wisconsin begins the year ranked No. 20 in the nation and was picked third in the Big Ten preseason coaches' poll.

Although Green Bay is looking for its first win against the Badgers (0-14-0 all time), the Phoenix has played well against its in-state competitor in each of the past two years under head coach Trevor Warren. Green Bay lost 1-0 decisions in both bouts under his direction, including a hard-fought double overtime game last season in Madison. In the previous 12 meetings with Wisconsin prior to Warren's arrival, the Phoenix was outscored 57-4.

Green Bay was picked to finish sixth in the preseason Horizon League poll after a 2009 season in which it posted a 4-11-3 record, including 3-2-1 mark on its home turf. The Phoenix returns 11 players, including seven starters, from last year's team, and Warren also adds five newcomers to the roster.
