Four Players Receive League Postseason Awards

March 7, 2010 - After claiming its 12th consecutive regular season Horizon League title, four Green Bay (26-3, 15-3) women's basketball players were honored with post-season awards, which was the most of any team in the League.

"We're thrilled with the recognitiion our team received and to have all these players returning is really exciting for our program," said head Coach Bollant.

Juniors Kayla Tetschlag (Sheboygan, Wis.) and Celeste Hoewisch (Hortonville, Wis.) received First Team All-League honors. Tetschlag was a Preseason Second Team All-League selection while Hoewisch was a First Team selection in the preseason balloting.

"It's an honor to be on the first team, it shows the other coaches respect me as a player. However I look at this as a team award because if our team wouldn't be doing so well Celeste and I may not have been recognized," said Tetschlag who is second in the League in field goal percentage (.564) and fourth in the League in scoring (426/14.7). Tetschlag was selected as the Conference Sixth Player of the Year last season.

In addition to being a First Team All-League selection, Hoewisch was also chosen to the All-Defensive Team which is the fourth consecutive year a Green Bay player has received the honor.

"I really appreciate my defense being noticed because I really take a lot of pride in it. I think defense is where winning starts and it's great to have other coaches notice it," said Hoewisch who was a Second Team All-League Selection last season.

Hoewisch is fourth in the League in steals (68/2.3 spg) and three-point field goal percentage (.384). In addition Hoewisch is seventh in the League in assists (119/4.1 apg), "It's good to know the rest of our League respects our team, especially having two players on the first team knowing only five are chosen," said Hoewisch.

This is the fifth time since being a member of the Horizon League (1995) that Green Bay has had two players on the first team in the same season.

Sophomore Julie Wojta (Mishicot, Wis.) was a Second Team All-League selection after switching from the perimeter position to the post. Last season Wojta averaged just under 2.0 ppg and this season she is averaging 14.7 ppg which is third best in the conference.

"I don't really have any expectations when it comes to awards, I'm just out there playing my hardest and trying to do whatever I can to help our team win," said Wojta who leads the Phoenix in scoring (427/14.7),rebounding (180/6.2), free-throw percentage (.830) and is second in assists and steals.

Because of a tie, six players were chosen to the All-Newcomer Team; one of which was freshman Sarah Eichler (Grafton, Wis.). Eichler has started 15 games for the Phoenix and is fourth on the team in defensive rebounding. Eichler is the ninth player in Phoenix history to be recognized on the All-Newcomer Team.

Green Bay will shoot for their ultimate award as they begin Horizon League tournament play hosting its quarterfinal game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. "The ultimate award is winning the conference championship and that's what I'm most proud of," said Tetschlag.
