Green Bay's Fletcher Tabbed First-Team All-Horizon League

GREEN BAY - Green Bay junior Rahmon Fletcher (Kansas City, Mo.) has been named to the All-Horizon League first team, the conference office announced Monday. It is the second straight year that the 5-foot-10 guard has earned a spot on the all-league squad, as he was a second-team selection in 2008-09.

On the year, Fletcher is averaging a career-best 16.6 points per game, the second highest average in the league. In conference-only games, he upped his output to 17.1 points per contest to lead all scorers. In addition, Fletcher ranks among the circuit's leaders in steals per game (3rd, 1.8) and field goal percentage (8th, .475).

He registered eight 20-point games, which included a career-high-tying 29-point performance against Loyola on Dec. 3. In addition, Fletcher joined Butler's Gordon Hayward as the only players to be named Horizon League Player of the Week three times (Dec. 6, Jan. 18, Feb. 22) during the season.

Fletcher, who already ranks 19th on the school's all-time scoring chart with 1,138 points, is just the seventh Green Bay player to earn multiple all-league honors since the program became Division I in 1981-82. He joins a list that includes four-time honoree Tony Bennett (1989, 1990, 1991, 1992), three-time recipients Jeff Nordgaard (1994, 1995, 1996) and Richard Sims (1984, 1987, 1988), as well as two-time winners B.J. LaRue (1999, 2000), Ryan Evanochko (2006, 2007) and Mike Schachtner (2007, 2008).

It was the second straight year that the Phoenix placed a member on the first team (Ryan Tillema in 2008-09). Green Bay had not had placed different players on the first team in back-to-back years since Jeff Nordgaard (1995) and Ben Berlowski (1996).

Fletcher was joined on the first team by Hayward (Player of the Year), fellow Bulldogs Shelvin Mack and Matt Howard, as well as Cleveland State's Norris Cole. The second team was comprised of Wright State's Vaughn Duggins, Milwaukee's Ricky Franklin, Detroit's Chase Simon and teammates Brandon Wood and Cory Johnson of Valparaiso.

Green Bay, seeded third, opens up play in the 2010 Speedway Horizon League Championship Tuesday at 7 p.m. when the team hosts No. 10 Youngstown State at the Resch Center.
