January 19, 2010 - After
winning a program record 34 consecutive regular-season games and posting a 16-0
record (5-0 in Horizon League), the Green Bay women's basketball team earned its
highest ranking in school history in today's ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
Green Bay moved up three spots to No. 14 in today's poll.
The highest ranking Green Bay had previously received in the coaches poll was 17th
on Jan. 13, 2003. Green Bay's highest ranking in the Associated Press Poll came
in the same week when the team was No. 16 for two consecutive weeks (Jan.
13-20).
Connecticut (17-0), Nebraska (16-0) and Green Bay (16-0) are
the only three unbeaten teams in the country. The Phoenix ranks second in the
country in assists per game (18.9) and third in turnover margin (8.75). In
addition, Green Bay ranks in the top 10 in three other statistical categories
(Assist/Turnover Ratio -7th, Steals Per Game-8th, Free-Throw Percentage-9th)
and in the top 20 in a total of nine categories.
The Phoenix is averaging 73.5 points per game and outscoring
its opponents by an average of 19.2 points per game.
Green Bay will be on
the road this weekend in Chicago with match-ups against Loyola on Thursday at
4:45 p.m. followed by UIC on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Team will return to the
Kress Center on Thursday, Jan. 28 to face Butler at 7 p.m.
