JAN. 4, 2009 - For
the second time in as many months junior Kayla Tetschlag (Sheboygan, Wis.) was
named the Horizon League Player of the week for Dec. 28 - Jan. 3.
In Green Bay's final non-conference game of the season against
Southern Illinois (Dec. 28) Tetschlag posted her first career double-double
leading all players with 25 points, 14 rebounds and four assists in the 75-64 win.
Five days later in Green Bay's conference opener at
Cleveland State Tetschlag was matched up against Preseason Horizon League
Player of the Year, Kailey Klein. Tetschlag held Klein to just three points and
one rebound in the first half before Klein finished with 11 points and six
boards for the game. On the offensive side of the ball Tetschlag had 21 points,
six rebounds, three assists, while shooting a perfect 4-4 from the free-throw
line as the Phoenix went on to win 78-60.
Tetschlag leads the Horizon League in scoring with 190
points averaging 15.8 ppg through 12 games. She was also named the Player of
Week for Dec. 7 while teammate Julie Wojta (Mishicot, Wis.) was named Player of
the Week Dec. 14.
The Phoenix will wrap up their Ohio road trip with a
match-up against Youngstown State tonight. Green Bay will return to the
confines of the Kress Center as they host Wright State on Thur., Jan. 7 at 7
p.m. followed by Detroit on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 2 p.m.
